Teachers Paying Eachother

After finishing my 3rd field experience at Uni, I found myself with copious amounts of resources, worksheets, lesson plans, and smartboard files, amongst many others. I felt like I was left with stuff that would not necessarily be used again until my next field experience. Stuff that takes up a lot of space in my room. After skimming through different teacher resource websites I have finally come across one that solves my dilema. The site is entitled Teachers Pay Teachers.

This site allows instructors to upload their various items, and to offer other instructors around the world to download those items (whether it be for free or for a fee). One can also post physical items for sale, which can include textbooks, exercise books, CDs, amongst other things. This site has allowed me to post several items and to subsequently sell multiple copies of each. The site does tale a commission from every transaction, but this method is definitely a great way for a teacher to put all those old lesson and unit plans to good use.

Dilemma

If you are reading this then you might know that I like love soccer, with hockey probably coming in a distant second. But today I am facing a dilemma. This afternoon there is a hockey game between USA and Canada, but not just any game this is the Gold Medal game for men's Olympic hockey. Also this afternoon my favorite club team FC Porto are playing against one of their biggest rivals in Portuguese SuperLiga action. Now I know people are screaming and pulling out their hair right now, but despite it being the Gold medal game, hockey still is a distant second on my favorite sports list. Although I could probably watch tv and computer at the same time.
There is only one problem with this though. Hockey I could watch by glancing once in a while and seeing the big plays happen simply because the action is almost always non-stop. When I watch soccer though I enjoy watching the play build up and develop into goals/scoring chances. It is not really enjoyable to simply look up once in a while like I do when watching hockey. Either way I'll have some big choices to make this afternoon come gametime.

Futebol

I love soccer.

Recently with the Round of 16 Champions League matches occurring I have been able to get my soccer fix of sorts. I have also been watching some Portuguese League matches (mostly FC Porto) which has helped to feed the addiction.

I also play in a League (one game per week which is nowhere near enough) and the playoffs start tonight before a new indoor season starts in three weeks or so. We finished this season in third and therefore we are playing the second place team, who we haven't faced so far. Hopefully we will be able to start the game off strong and put in a couple of goals before the opposition have the chance to settle down. We'll see.

Until game-time though I think I'll watch some soccer.

Sun

I absolutely love the sun, be it during summer or Montreal winter. It's warmth is simply invigorating. I will soon go for a run or a skate outside because this sun cannot be passed up. To all those who are presently stuck inside, I feel for you. But I can't for too long because I gotta go enjoy the sun :)

ToFu

So as of late I've been on a healthy eating binge of sorts. I've replaced my cookies and chewey bars with wheat germ and oatmeal, I've stopped eating bleach white bread which has been cut (pun intended) for flax seed bread, and finally I've taken it upon myself to give Tofu a chance.

I've been hearing a lot about tofu recently, both good and bad things. "It's so healthy for you!" people have exclaimed, and that's very true. It is the only plant based product that provides the same 21 essential amino acids that eating meat provides. I've also been told that it tastes like cardboard/nothing, and that it has the consistency of rubber. Well, after hearing these different theories in regards to tofu, I decided never to eat it. A couple of days later I was the proud owner of my first package of tofu. I didn't know exactly what to do with it at first but after looking up a few recipes there was a clear-cut leader, Fried Rice with Tofu and Vegetables! After having prepared, cooked, and eaten it I can easily say that tofu is not bad at all, and that it definately has the consistency of rubber.

Inauguration Time

I guess this can be seen as the inauguration of my blog, On the Beat. The first question you might have regarding this blog might be, what's the point? I'm wondering the exact same thing. I guess the point is to be able to express my; likes, dislikes, interesting stories, etc, using a medium that would allow people from everywhere and anywhere to read. Enjoy my rants, my likes, dislikes, stories and anything else that might find its way here.
